With over a decade of teaching and nearly as many yearbooks, I’ve been around the block a time or two. Funnily enough, I never really planned on being a journalism teacher. I got into photography in college and fell into yearbook advising because I knew Photoshop and that was one step closer to knowing inDesign than any other teacher in my school.
I fell in love. I love giving kids the power and responsibility to take on a big task, a HUGE task, and watching them complete it. I love watching kids succeed when they never thought it was possible. I love giving the kids the power of voice through the first amendment. I love journalistic writing. I love design. I love photography. I love it all.
Next thing I knew, I was taking college classes to get a journalism endorsement on my teaching license. I was attending workshops, becoming a American Society of News Editors Fellow, and attending national journalism conferences. I eat, sleep, and dream this stuff. Yes, I’m a nerd.
I decided to start putting some of the things I’ve been creating for my own classes online. If you have any questions, feel free to shoot me an email. I’m happy to answer any questions you may have. I’m also available for consulting work and teaching workshops. Thanks for visiting. I hope you find something useful.
